10 Tips For Healthier Skin During Winter in UAE

Winter is just the time to head outdoors, boots and trench coats in tow! The temperatures dip to a comfortable low and the pleasant breeze makes the climate all the more ideal for those out-in-the-sun brunches and just the time to look your radiant best. But, after the dry, arid months of the summer, we sometimes forget that the winter, too, calls for some attention to be paid to our skin’s basic needs. A colder climate can strip the skin of its natural oils, leaving it both dry and dehydrated. Hence, the winter months call for a skincare regimen that restores these essential natural oils and gives the skin some much-needed hydration that delivers a vibrant glow to the skin sans the oiliness and over-ladening of products. We suggest the following earth rhythm skincare tips for winter in UAE, to repair the skin from within and reveal a sparkling radiance:

  1. Use a mild face wash to cleanse your skin, but not more than twice a day. Harsh cleansers may unclog your pores and leave the skin of the face feeling refreshed, but in the process they often strip the skin of its natural oils, thus leaving it feeling stretched, uncomfortable, and hard to restore with a moisturizer.

  2. Use Facial Mask: For an extra boost of hydration and nourishment, apply a mask every other day on dry skin for 15-20 minutes or till the mask dries completely, then gently rinse it off with water and pat dry with a soft towel. When opting for a face mask, ensure you are not allergic to any of its ingredients. Do a patch test beforehand.

We recommend Earth Rhythm Pore Out Face Masque with Pumpkin & Glycolic Acid for the UAE winter. It is designed to exfoliate and resurface the skin for a smooth and even complexion. It helps to remove dead skin cells from the surface and reveal brighter skin.

  3. Use Moisturizer: When selecting a moisturizer for your face, choose a lightweight cream-based moisturizer over a water-based variant if you have extremely dry skin that worsens in the relatively colder temperatures of the UAE winter. A cream-based moisturizer works to deliver essential nourishment to the skin to combat and heal a dry, flaky texture.

You may opt for Earth Rhythm Phyto-Ceramide Deep Moisturiser especially suited for dry skin. This plant-derived lipid mixture consists of phospholipids and 10% sphingolipids that are easily able to penetrate the skin. It helps to create a barrier to prevent permeability. It locks moisture into your dry skin, which helps to prevent further dryness or irritation.

  4. Use Sunscreen: The sun may have lost its harsh and blazing power, but not its harmful effect on your skin. The winter sun may feel warm and welcoming, and you may even want to soak it all up, but the best way to do this while keeping the sun’s harmful effects at bay would be when you apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before you step out.

  5. Use Makeup Remover Cleansing Balm: Removing makeup before going to bed can be a tedious task, but not necessarily. You can opt for a cleansing balm to remove makeup and sunscreen. Cleansing balms contain oils that not only help breakdown makeup but also remove grime, sunscreen and other products used in the day. Try Earth Rhythm Pore Refining Cleansing Balm with Natural Fruit Acids – AHAs like Lactic, Malic and Glycolic acids that help gently dissolve dead skin cell build-up. It also contains plant-based fatty acids derived from coconut oil and glycerin that act as excellent emollients.

  6. Winter may turn your skin dry, dull and itchy as dead skin cells continue to build up on the skin’s surface. Hence, it is important to regularly exfoliate with a gentle scrub to remove this surface buildup and reveal softer, smoother-looking skin. And while you take care of the skin on your face, ensure that the skin on the body is not left behind or ignored. Post the exfoliation, use a nourishing moisturizer to plump up the skin.

  7. Use Butter Cream Soap: Replace your regular soap or body wash with a moisturizing Butter Cream Soap this winter. Its soft, buttery consistency is hard to resist and just a small, coin-sized amount works into a good lather and goes a long way in giving your skin that boost of moisture. Try Earth Rhythm Berry Smoothie – Acai Berry Extract Butter Cream Soap that is enriched with Vitamin A to help boost cell turnover, Vitamin C to boost collagen production, Shea Butter to treat dry skin, dry patches and flakiness, and Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, an extremely gentle surfactant derived from coconut oil that improves skin hydration, moisture, texture, and prevents dryness and skin irritation.

  8. Avoid Long Hot Bath: As luxurious and relaxing as they may sound, long showers, especially with hot water, can substantially affect your skin’s natural moisturizing factors, causing it to dry out. It is thus recommended that you limit your bathing time to 5-10 minutes, once a day, and use warm water instead of hot to retain all the moisture in the skin.

  9. Drink as much water as you can. It is not the easiest thing to do in winter, but it is the simplest way to take care of your skin from within and let it shine through.

  10. A good diet never goes out of fashion. We recommend a balanced one that contains the right nutrients such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and proteins. But, do not go overboard with vitamins as they can then do more harm than good.
